Kiln-Fused Glass

Kiln-fused glass begins with individual pieces of glass that are cut, arranged, and fired together in a kiln. As the glass heats, the pieces soften and fuse, transforming the original arrangement into a single work. Additional firings may be used to shape the glass and give it dimension.

I use this process to create fish, birds, and other sculptural pieces with plenty of character. Layers of glass are combined with wire and metal mesh, then embellished with glass enamels, decals, gold foil, and other details. Displayed on stands, incorporated into larger compositions, or suspended with wire, each piece has its own distinct personality — and often a touch of humor.
